The technical read
Nexus Electrical Co's site is better built than it looks on the surface. Every service has its own real page with its own written title and meta description in the CMS, not one generic page trying to rank for everything. That is the right foundation, and most local trades sites do not bother with it.
Two things are undermining that foundation. First, a single template setting is appending a duplicate of the page name onto every service page's title tag, which is a five-minute fix that touches all ten service pages at once. Second, the site was built on top of a Webflow ecommerce template and never fully stripped of the parts that don't belong to an electrician's business, so Google is being asked to crawl and index checkout pages, PayPal pages and product pages for a company that sells electrical work, not products.
Keyword strategy: what's actually winnable
Pulled real search volume and ranking difficulty from Ahrefs for every core service term, and checked what the domain currently ranks for. The honest starting point: the domain currently ranks for exactly one keyword in Ahrefs' entire index, "electrician balcatta" at position 5, and even that's ranking on the homepage rather than the dedicated Balcatta page. Every other service and location term shows zero current ranking.
That's not a competition problem. Almost every term below sits at a difficulty score of 0-3 out of 100, meaning close to nobody is fighting for it. The constraint is that Google doesn't yet trust or fully understand this site, which lines up exactly with the technical findings above: thin crawl coverage, a duplicated title tag on every service page, and a sitemap full of dead ecommerce URLs. Fix the technical layer, and these numbers become winnable much faster than the difficulty scores alone would suggest.
| Keyword | Volume/mo | Difficulty | CPC | Current ranking |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| electrician near me | 17,000 | 0 | $4.00 | Not ranking, GBP/local-pack driven |
| electrician perth | 2,500 | 0 | $7.00 | Not ranking, biggest open opportunity on the site |
| commercial electrician perth | 700 | 36 | $3.50 | Not ranking |
| emergency electrician perth | 500 | 0 | $3.00 | Not ranking |
| air conditioning installation perth | 500 | 28 | $6.00 | Not ranking |
| split system installation perth | 400 | 0 | $3.00 | Not ranking |
| ev charger installation perth | 350 | 0 | $2.50 | Not ranking |
| residential electrician perth | 350 | 55 | $5.00 | Not ranking, hardest term in the set |
| switchboard upgrade perth | 200 | 0 | $7.00 | Not ranking |
| electrician balcatta | 150 | 0 | $6.00 | Ranking #5, but on the homepage, not its own page |
| 24 hour electrician perth | 150 | 0 | $2.50 | Not ranking, not currently targeted anywhere |
| power pole replacement perth | 100 | 3 | $9.00 | Not ranking, highest CPC in the set |
| electrician north perth | 100 | 0 | $3.50 | Not ranking |
Fix the Balcatta cannibalisation first
The dedicated Balcatta Electrician page should be ranking for "electrician balcatta," not the homepage. This usually means the homepage is a stronger internal-linking signal for that term than the service page is. Once the technical fixes land and internal links are checked, this one keyword can likely move up fast, it's already proven Google will rank a Nexus page for it.
"electrician perth" is the one to build around
2,500 searches a month, difficulty 0, and currently zero visibility. This is the single highest-value term on the whole list and nothing is targeting it directly right now. Worth a clear decision: is the homepage meant to own this term, or does it need its own page.
"electrician near me" won't move from on-page work alone
17,000 searches a month is the biggest number here, but per the vault's Local SEO Playbook, "near me" queries are answered by the Google Business Profile and local pack, not organic content. This is the same [NEEDS GBP ACCESS] item flagged earlier in this report, and it's now clearly the highest-leverage item once access is sorted.
"24 hour electrician perth" is a free addition
150 searches a month, difficulty 0, and nothing on the site targets it directly yet. The Emergency Electrician page already covers this topic, it just needs the phrase worked into the title, a heading, or the body copy.
What this means in order: the technical fixes above aren't separate from this strategy, they're the precondition for it. A site Google barely trusts yet won't move on 0-difficulty keywords no matter how good the content is. Fix the technical layer first, fix the Balcatta cannibalisation, build "electrician perth" out properly, then chase the GBP-driven "near me" volume once access exists. Ahrefs Rank Tracker has zero keywords set up for this domain right now, so none of this is being measured over time yet either, worth adding these terms to the tracker so movement is visible month over month.
Where Smart Fix and Richtek are weak
Pulled real organic rankings for the two named competitors. One data-quality note first: smartfixelectrical.com.au (the domain used in the Google Ads competitor campaign) shows zero organic keywords in Ahrefs. Their real site appears to be teamsmartfix.com.au, which ranks fine and even ranks #2 for the brand term "smartfix" itself. Worth updating wherever smartfixelectrical.com.au is referenced as a competitor to the correct domain.
The bigger structural finding: neither Smart Fix nor Richtek is a pure electrician. Both are multi-trade businesses splitting their SEO effort across plumbing, hot water, leak detection and roofing content alongside electrical. Nexus, as a focused electrical specialist, isn't fighting them on equal ground, it can go deeper on electrical topics than either of them bothers to. Even on their best electrical term, "electrician perth," Richtek only sits at position 13, page two. Nobody has a real grip on this term yet.
| Keyword a competitor ranks for | Volume/mo | Difficulty | Who ranks, at what position |
|---|---|---|---|
| electricians near me | 2,800 | 11 | Richtek, #6 |
| emergency electrician near me | 1,100 | 0 | Richtek, #15 |
| local electrician near me | 600 | 21 | Richtek, #6 |
| electrician day rate | 700 | 1 | Team Smart Fix, #1 |
| ducted air conditioning perth | 600 | 1 | Team Smart Fix, #16 |
"Electrician day rate" is a free blog post
700 searches a month, difficulty 1, currently owned by Team Smart Fix at position 1 with what's likely thin competition. Nobody at Nexus has written anything about pricing or day rates. This is exactly the kind of purchase-intent, cost-comparison query the vault's Keyword Research framework flags as systematically undertargeted, people are close to booking when they search this.
"Ducted air conditioning perth" — does Nexus even offer this?
600 searches a month, difficulty 1, and Team Smart Fix barely ranks for it either (#16). The current Nexus air con page is built around split systems specifically. [VERIFY WITH CHRIS] whether ducted systems are part of the service offering before building anything here, don't chase a keyword for a service that isn't actually sold.
Three more "near me" variants worth tracking
"Electricians near me," "emergency electrician near me" and "local electrician near me" are separate search terms from the ones already identified, and competitors only hold weak-to-moderate positions on them. Same GBP dependency as before, but worth having in the Rank Tracker so movement is visible once GBP work starts.
Fix #1 (highest leverage): the duplicated title tag
Confirmed live on all ten service pages, and root-caused directly in Webflow, not guessed at. Every service page title tag currently reads as the correct, individually-written title, followed by the service name a second time.
Switchboard Upgrade Perth | Safety Switch Installation | Nexus Electrical Co - Switchboard Upgrade PerthSwitchboard Upgrade Perth | Safety Switch Installation | Nexus Electrical CoSame pattern confirmed on Emergency Electrician, EV Charger Installation, Renovation Electrician, Power Pole Replacement, Residential Electrician, Commercial Electrician and Air Conditioning. The CMS field itself (title-tag) is clean on every item, it already holds the correct, fully-branded title. The duplication is added afterwards by the page template.
Root cause
The Services collection template page's own SEO Title setting is bound to two CMS fields joined together:
Since title-tag already contains the full branded title, appending name (the plain service name) a second time is what produces the duplicate. The fix is a one-field edit on the Services template page's SEO settings:
One change, applied once on the shared template, fixes all ten live service pages simultaneously. No CMS content needs touching.
Fix #2: a wrong meta description in production
The Power Pole Replacement Perth page's meta description does not describe power pole replacement. It reads as a leftover, generic homepage-style description.
Licensed Perth electrician for homes & businesses. Emergency callouts, switchboard upgrades & air conditioning. Call Nexus Electrical Co — 0449 574 575.Licensed EV charger installation across Perth. Tesla Wall Connector, Zappi, Wallbox, Ocular & Hager. Fixed price, Certificate of Compliance. Call 0449 574 575This weakens click-through from the search result for that specific page, since the description doesn't match what the searcher is looking for. [NEEDS REAL COPY] — a corrected, power-pole-specific description should be written and entered on that CMS item directly. The page's own title tag already references "Western Power Approved," so a fixed description can safely build on that existing, already-published claim rather than inventing a new one.
Fix #3: the site is still carrying its starter template
The live site was built from a Webflow ecommerce/agency starter template, and the unused scaffolding was never fully removed. These are live, publicly reachable pages that have nothing to do with an electrical services business, and several of them are being actively submitted to Google in the sitemap.
/checkout/paypal-checkout/order-confirmation/search/product/category/skuConfirmed in sitemap.xml: /checkout, /paypal-checkout, /order-confirmation and /search are all listed as pages Google should crawl and index, alongside the real service and blog pages. There are also 12 draft template pages still sitting in the CMS (Coming Soon, Style Guide, Changelog, Licenses, and similar) which are not published, so they carry no live SEO risk, but are worth deleting for a cleaner workspace.
Per the vault's own technical framework: "Technical consistency is Google's number one advice, repeated since 2015." Every dead template URL Google has to crawl is crawl budget spent on a page that will never rank or convert, instead of on the pages that should. This doesn't need to be dramatic to fix: unpublish or noindex the unused template pages, and regenerate the sitemap once they're gone.
Fix #4: North Perth's page is wearing Balcatta's photos
Confirmed directly in the CMS, not a guess: the North Perth Electrician page's featured image, thumbnail and icon are the exact same files as the Balcatta Electrician page, down to the filenames, which are still literally named card-balcatta-electrician.svg and Balcatta Electrician.svg. This is what happens when a location page gets duplicated to create a new one and the images never get swapped.
card-balcatta-electrician.svgBalcatta%20Electrician.svgFix: upload a real North Perth (or generic Nexus) thumbnail and icon to that CMS item, or clear the fields and reuse the site's generic photo if a location-specific one doesn't exist yet.
Worth checking separately, not something to guess at here: the North Perth page's body copy reads more hedged than Balcatta's ("based in Perth, with North Perth right on the doorstep" versus Balcatta's "It's the home base"). If Nexus isn't actually based in or near North Perth, that softer language may be intentionally honest. [VERIFY WITH CHRIS] before tightening it, since a location page is one of the few places on the site making a specific factual claim about where the business operates.
What Ahrefs actually found
An Ahrefs Site Audit project already exists for this domain (health score 100, 0 errors), but it only crawled 5 of the site's 37+ live URLs, so it cannot be read as a clean bill of health for the whole site. The issues it did find, on the pages it reached:
| Issue | Severity | URLs affected |
|---|---|---|
| 3XX redirect | Warning | 3 |
| HTTP to HTTPS redirect | Notice | 1 |
| Redirect chain | Notice | 1 |
None of these are urgent on their own, but the vault's site architecture framework flags redirect chains specifically: "301 redirects must be page-to-page mapped. Redirecting all to homepage creates unnatural authority patterns." Worth a quick check that nothing is chaining through more than one hop. The bigger action here is simply re-running the Ahrefs crawl with its page limit raised, so the next audit actually covers the real site.
Context that matters: Domain Rating and ranking timeline
Domain Rating of 0.1
Per the vault's Local SEO Playbook, local trades competitors typically sit at DR 0 to 5 too. Local rankings run on Google Business Profile signals and the local pack, not backlink authority, so this number should not drive any panic or a backlink-buying detour.
Rankings typically land inside 90 days
The same vault source notes local SEO produces movement fast because competitors are usually just as thin on authority. A $24k local SEO investment returned $2.8m over 11 months for one case in that source, off a similarly low starting point.
On-page content and strategy, not just technical
The technical layer (crawlability, titles, sitemap) is one thing. This is the other layer: does the actual writing on each page do its job. Checked directly against the CMS body content of the service pages, using the vault's on-page framework as the yardstick.
Keyword placement in the first sentence is solid
Checked Switchboard Upgrade, Emergency Electrician, Balcatta and North Perth: every one leads with the target keyword in its first sentence, not buried further down. That's one of the vault's five key placement positions, already done correctly, no action needed.
Page length is close to the target
Service page body copy runs roughly 350-450 words once the key-point blocks are included, close to the vault's 400-500 word "money page" benchmark from the Local SEO Playbook.
Only one page uses the strongest format
Emergency Electrician Perth is the standout: a clear H3 subheading ("What counts as an electrical emergency") followed by a scannable bullet list. Per the vault, this is exactly the format that performs, short paragraphs, bullets, descriptive subheadings. The other service and location pages are plain paragraphs only. Worth using the Emergency Electrician page as the template for the rest, where a bullet list or clear subheading naturally fits.
Structured content blocks are already in place
Every service page has 3 key-point heading/text pairs plus 2-4 short feature bullets in the CMS. That's a genuinely good, repeatable content structure, most competitors won't have this.
What's already right, and shouldn't be touched
One page per service, not one page trying to do everything
Matches the vault's Local SEO Playbook money-page model exactly: one focused page per service, each with its own title and description already written specifically for that service (aside from the Power Pole exception above).
Clean, shallow URLs
Every service sits at /service/[name], one level deep. That's inside the vault's "all pages within 2 clicks of homepage" guidance for crawl frequency and indexing.
Location pages already started
Balcatta and North Perth each have their own dedicated page, following the "one page per location" pattern the vault recommends, rather than trying to rank the homepage for every suburb at once.
Meta descriptions are real, not missing
Verified directly against the live HTML, not just Webflow's records: every page checked (aside from Power Pole) has a specific, accurate, present meta description.
Gap worth planning for: hyper-local content
Six blog posts are live, all genuinely useful Perth-wide cost and how-to content (switchboard upgrade cost, choosing an electrician, LED savings). None of the six reference a specific suburb, street or local event. The vault's Local SEO Playbook is specific on this: "Blog content with street names, local events, neighborhood references. Internal link loops between service pages and local content."
Not urgent, but worth planning: only 2 of Perth's suburbs have a dedicated location page so far (Balcatta, North Perth), against a hard 20-mile ranking radius from wherever Nexus is based. There's room to map out more of the metro area within that radius before this becomes a competitive gap.
Recommended order of operations
Nothing below has been applied. This is the priority list for you or Kash to action.
| Priority | Action | Effort |
|---|---|---|
| 01 | Fix the Services template title binding ({{title-tag}} - {{name}} → {{title-tag}}) | 5 minutes, fixes all 10 pages |
| 02 | Write and enter a correct meta description for Power Pole Replacement Perth | 10 minutes |
| 03 | Unpublish or noindex the leftover template/ecommerce pages, then regenerate the sitemap | 30-60 minutes |
| 04 | Upload real photos to the North Perth Electrician page (currently using Balcatta's images) | 10-15 minutes |
| 05 | Widen the Ahrefs Site Audit crawl limit and re-run it for a real full-site picture | 5 minutes |
| 06 | Check the redirect chain Ahrefs flagged, confirm it's not more than one hop | 15 minutes |
| 07 | Verify Google Business Profile service list and review-reply cadence | [NEEDS GBP ACCESS] |
| 08 | Bring the bullet/subheading format from Emergency Electrician to the other service pages | Content pass, next cycle |
| 09 | Plan 2-3 more suburb location pages within the 20-mile radius, and add street-level detail to future blog posts | Ongoing, next content cycle |
